We bought our first house with Andrew Schein two month ago. Doug assisted me (as a buyer's agent) with my first home purchase in 1994. Unlike other agents who I considered using at the time, Doug was not pushy, and indicated his willingness to work with me even when I wasn't sure at the time if I was ready to buy then, or wanting to wait a few months.Doug walked me through the process from Step 1 completely through the purchase, and was professional, easy to work with, patient with my many questions, and made sure the sale went through without any problems. Doug was my buying agent on both of the homes I've purchased. The things I like about Doug include: 1. I never feel any pressure from him. Zach was extremely helpful in our home search. We happened to meet Zach by chance, but in the end it worked out quite well for us. He possesses a lot of knowledge about the area which we were targeting for our home purchase (North Seattle), and after a few showings he got a very good idea of the kind of home we were looking for.That helped us a lot in narrowing down our choices. When we finally decided on our home, Zach moved pretty quickly with making a bid on the home, and completing the negotiation with the seller. Price wise, he was able to obtain a good deal for the home. He is extremely responsive, and answered all of our questions in the quickest possible manner. Even after we moved into our new home, he regularly checked in with us to make sure everything was going smoothly. He was very helpful during the whole transition process. We greatly appreciate his guidance in us going from being renters to homeowners. In terms of the purchase process, there were a couple of things which we felt could have gone better: 1. We had a tight closing date, which made it almost impossible for us to shop for the best loan options. We had no idea that there had been a slight change in the loan process in October, which made securing a loan slightly longer. We would have liked Zach to be cognizant of these changes, which would have helped us secure a better closing date. 2. The seller had agreed in the contract that he would pay the sewer capacity charges in full, and we were under the impression that we will get it in the form of a credit towards closing cost. However, later we came to know that the seller can only pay it directly to the county, and not to us. Around the time we started looking for a home we saw a property and used Zillow's visit the property feature. A bunch of agents contacted us, left multiple voicemails, put me on mailing lists, called from unknown numbers and left vague voicemails, none about the specific property.Andrew left one voicemail explaining that the property was pending but they we should give him a call if we'd like to see other homes. I called Andrew back and eventually my fiance and I visited him in his office near Northgate where he went over the home buying process, his credentials and answered every (exhausted) question we had. He was very patient, knowledgeable and honest. With our budget, we weren't getting a craftsman in Capitol Hill, but we could get something in Seattle that met our needs with out breaking the bank. Over the next few months we saw houses that were nice but far away, fixer-uppers, small houses, houses in a flight path, flipped houses with a premium price tag for a mediocre paint job, and others my fiance and I just didn't agree on. When he sent us a houses that we liked, he met or drove us to the property in a day or so. I was really surprised initially when he would show us all the flaws, which he saw right away with his history in construction management. One house had a really interesting plank wall, which he showed us was not insulated properly and would likely affect our energy bills. When a house had an undesirable characteristic, he was very honest about the probability of changing it and how much it would cost. We eventually found a house we really liked that was bid out of our price range. Andrew was able get a pulse on the bidding process, and we didn't even submit an offer. We were disheartened, but we didn't have to spend any money. We even backed out of an offer that got accepted after the inspection showed a multitude of problems. Andrew communicated that this was just part of the process and we moved on. Eventually we found another place we liked. Andrew arranged a pre-inspection and we submitted an offer. There were almost 10 other offers on the place, but Andrew put together a really solid offer letter and it was accepted. While researching the home buying process I found that sellers sometimes didn't accept an offer just because the offer wasn't put together well enough. We are a recently retired couple moving back to Seattle after many years away. We found Andrew on the internet and met with him before we actually moved and found him to be personable, extremely informative and very helpful. So when we completed our move we began working with him. Andrew spent alot of time introducing us to areas that would likely be in our price range and explaining the situation to us as buyers in a very competitive market. He paid close attention to our reaction to houses and quickly had a good grasp of all the features we most wanted (or didn't want) in a home. This became invaluable as the weeks went by, as he could preview a home for us and let us know if he thought it fit our needs well enough for us to visit it ourselves. We ultimately bid on three different houses, and Andrew was excellent at making sure all the needed steps could be carried out within the very short time window to bid (around a week). He arranged for the inspections we required; walked us through the formalities of submitting a bid as well as the process owners went through to arrive at which bid was ultimately chosen; and made sure our bids were submitted in a timely way. He also kept us apprised of where we were in the process. Andrew's knowledge of home construction and maintenance was invaluable as we assessed to what degree repairs or upgrades might be needed on any particular property. He was able to guesstimate the cost of likely repairs, as well as to refer us to numerous contractors and other specialists once our bid was selected. Even after escrow closed, Andrew has been providing suggestions for contractors to get some of the needed work done on our new home. Andrew has been great to work with because he is straightforward about what he sees as a property's good qualities and flaws, as well as about what he thinks a home will likely sell for (all are substantially above the asking price in this crazy market). He has a great sense of humor and we felt comfortable with him right away. His manner is casual but he is completely professional in his work. He was always accessible and very responsive (esp. via text), and if he didn't have the answer to a question he immediately got the answer from the right source. All in all, our experience working with Andrew was very positive. We felt we were getting good guidance all along, that he listened to us and was able to steer us toward properties we would be most likely to seriously consider, and that he wanted us to find a house that we truly felt good about.
